Here's a few pics from our recent sojourn to the New York Art Book Fair.

My trip to New York started with a few stock-signing trips with Kate Beaton. Here you can see Brooklyn's awesome Greenlight Bookstore, though we also stopped by McNally Jackson and, of course, The Strand! All of the great independent bookstores in New York never cease to amaze me. What a great book town!

Kate stretches her signing muscles in preparation for her Housing Works launch that night.

Now to the Art Book Fair!

It would appear that while we have rules about "no eating" and "no sitting," reading has not yet been officially banned behind the booth. Damn you, Alison! You always find a loophole! (But, hey, check out how dynamic that booth looks)

Keith Jones and Liz Hickey stop by the boot, looking dapper as ever. Though I WILL say that it's unusual that Keith isn't smiling. Perhaps he caught Alison reading behind the booth?

And now, for a little series I like to call "Celebrities, we are spying on you."

Alison and I have been perfecting our stalking tricks for many years. See here an early attempt at surreptitiously photographing Michel Gondry and Dan Nadel using a pretzel as decoy.

Well, now we've discovered the classic "taking a photo of the back of your booth" trick. What? No, of course I wasn't photographing you, Jerry Saltz and Roberta Smith. I was just taking a photo of the spine of The Native Trees of Canada, obviously.

We try some long distance work.

Ah, a classic New York Art Book Fair spy shot! Wonderful artist, Printed Matter founder and my countryman, AA Bronson.

Bill Powers, gallerist and judge on Bravo's Work of Art: the Next Great Artist. Too bad this photo is so serene, as just moments before he was gesticulating wildly.

But, what's that? I have an animated gif of him gesticulating?

Why, of course I do. (This one is for Paddy Johnson, lover of gifs and WANGA)

Alison! You look so happy to be here on day 2!

Andy Brown, a little less happy.

Happy again! Now, here's is when I let you in on a top secret D+Q marketing plan: one of us hangs out in front of the booth and loudly talks about how great the books are, like those actresses who are hired to wear American Eagle Outfitter clothes on college campuses to make them seem cool.

Admittedly, this plan might've worked better if I hadn't just been staring into space like an amused fool.

Oh, for chrissakes, Alison!

So dynamic! So engaging! How did we manage to activate that space so much?

Show Paper! These awesome kids in New York make these free all-ages show listings and the front always features cool artists. How rad is that?

Our friend Patrick from RCAAQ stands in front of D+Q store-staffer Julien's hand-drawn t-shirts.

Oh, HELLO THERE, Patrick!

We head out to dinner after an exhausting but fun book shilling week. Alison is skeptical. COME ON, MAN! It was fun!

Our Canadian friends Ryan and Harley from Anteism. We Canadians must stick together when visiting our confident and intimidating friends to the South.

At least someone is having a good time! Hiro Kurata and Randy Chang listen to Alison's take on an NYC sushi restaurant where all of the waiters dress like ninjas, have fake ninja fights, and secretly cut your food with ninja swords when you aren't looking. I think it's called "Shogun."

Finally, our "Pièce de résistance:"

OLD TOM DEVLIN! Look at how much fun you are going to have in the future, regular Tom Devlin.
