Boston Book Festival (much delayed recap)

Okay, look, it's weeks after the Boston Book Festival. It's a one day affair and I drive down through Vermont and then head back home the next day. There's lots of great guests (this year we brought in Daniel Clowes, Seth, and Kate Beaton) and there were panels with the likes of Mo Willems, Chuck Klosterman, Michael Ondaatje, Karen Russell, Alison Bechdel, oh, and the cast of The Wire?

It's a nice show because Boston really is a book city (unlike those other cities that are always burning books and banning dancing) and the show is outdoors in Copley Square (cahp-lee, people, not coh-plee) and there are tons of people walking about who just check out the show.

The other thing about Boston is that the wind is crazy and it rains alot and then the sun comes out and it rains again. So those things all happened a few times. In fact, this is our old pal Alison chasing down The Death-Ray banner as it whips around our little wind tunnel of a booth.

Hey, and here's that Mo Willems fella stopping by to steal Seth's hat! What?!! No, he came by to say hi to the Seth and Dan and drop off copies of his new Piggy and Elephant book, Happy Pig Day! {Okay, so I have kids and they love Mo--LOVE HIM--and right now they are crazy for his Don't Let the Pigeon Run This App! which is as fun an iPad kids thing as I've seen. I approve. Unpaid advertisement over. Oh, jeez, go buy his actual books too!}

Reports were that Dan's reading of The Death-Ray was suitably hilarious, Seth charmed the audience, and Kate stole the show away from those other people who ONLY write in their books.

I'll admit it was pretty hectic and photo taking was not on the agenda evidently. I swear I had more photos but they've been lost to the ether. Here's Kate greeting a fan. Lines were hectic for everyone. Kate actually ended the day in the dark signing the last few books for fans at the Brookline Booksmith (love those people) because, well, it was an outdoor festival and the sun was the lighting and it had long ago set. Seriously, Dan, Seth, and Kate had real lines only rivaled by the grilled cheese truck (sadly true, evidently all we've ever wanted to do as a species is eat out of something that will drive away in an hour or two) and that was pretty gratifying.
