With a week to go before Canada's federal election, the writer Jeet Heer pens this article on the subject of Stephen Harper's Conservative government and their recent decision to slash nearly $50 million in arts funding. The article appears in the National Post, which despite being a conservative paper founded by disgraced former mogul and current convict Conrad Black, has had consistently some of the best arts coverage of any Canadian publication of the past decade. Go figure.
