SDCC 08 (Friday)

We're back home from San Diego now and catching up on sleep and work. It's safe to say that this was our most profitable and generally successful Comic Con yet. Long lines for Lynda, Adrian, and Rutu (thanks to everyone who came to get their books signed) and sell-outs for half a dozen books. The folks running the Con were amazingly helpful in every regard and I was constantly astonished by how attentive and well organized they were. And calm. So special thanks to Jackie and Janet (who I dealt with in person during the show) and all the other people on staff who made this the smoothest SDCC D+Q has ever done.

I can't describe how much fun I had hanging out with Rutu and Yirmi. Rutu's presentation was a highlight for me this year at SDCC.

I'm told the highlight of the graphic novel panel featuring Rutu and Adrian was when Rutu wrestled the mic away from Eddie "My Life in Comics" Campbell.

Okay, to be fair I just learned how to text. FUNEM. SVFM. FUNEX. SVFX. LOL.

And then he wins for Satchel Paige. It was kind of a surprise to us all and a pretty nice moment so close to the end of the night. Congrats to Rich Tomasso as well.

And THEN Rutu wins and gives a really sweet speech thanking her friend Yirmi and our publisher Chris Oliveros. Did I need a thank you from the stage? No, I did not. Look it was late and the lights are bright and people can be a little forgetful. I get it. It's not a big deal . I don't do it for the thank yous and accolades.

I don't.
