TCAF: Sturm at the JCC; Clowes Ticket News; New Books; Doug Wright Awards; All Things D+Q

Why yes, this blog post is the last thing I have to do before I can go to the best comics convention in the world, TCAF. Let's get started.

a few evening highlights

Thursday night, May 6th, James Sturm will be presenting MARKET DAY at the Miles Nadal JCC (Spadina & Bloor). The event starts at 7PM and will be the only point this week that James will present a slide show on the book. Miriam Libicki will also be there, and the event will be moderated by Peter Birkemoe of the Beguiling. Check out this interview with Torontoist and James.

Friday night, May 7th, is the much anticipated headlining event with Dan Clowes at the TPL, The Bram & Bluma Appel Salon, Event Hall. Dan will be live on the CBC Q with Jian Gomeshi on Thursday morning May 6th, 10 AM. Tune in! Tickets for this event are much sought after, and TCAF has announced how to get them. A VERY LIMITED NUMBER OF TICKETS will be released online the morning of Friday May 7th as well you can line up VERY EARLY Friday morning at the Beguiling to get them in person. More information here.

Saturday night, May 8th are the Doug Wright Awards at the TPL, The Bram & Bluma Appel Salon, Event Hall. Tickets are free but limited. Info here. Director Brad Mackay does an amazing, top notch job with these awards and DWA nominees Marc Bell, Pascal Girard, Amy Lockhart, and Seth will be on hand.

What is happening at the actual show, you ask? D+Q will be HQed at tables 103-106 and TCAF has cooked up a full slate of programming, and you'll want to get there early on Saturday for the landmark panel with James Sturm, Daniel Clowes, Jim Woodring, Chester Brown and Seth, moderated by the Comics Reporter himself. (who is going to TCAF, can you believe it?)
