Summer reading

The opening lines of this piece in last weekend's New York Times by Leanne Shapton ring so true, there can't be one among us who hasn't been lured by the forgotten paperback of another. This notion of the fateful text is particularly relevant for Leanne whose forthcoming Petit Livre The Native Trees of Canada is a reinterpretation of a 1917 government reference book by the same name, happened upon in a used bookstore in Toronto, Ontario.

Leanne Shapton is an artist, illustrator, art director and publisher known for her innovative and bewitching ways with image and narrative in recent books like Was She Pretty and Important Artifacts and Personal Property from the Collection of Lenore Doolan and Harold Morris including Books, Street Fashion and Jewelry. Look for the doubtlessly provocative and awesome The Native Trees of Canada this coming November.
